02/01/08 Nanny Update

The carefree life that this little French Bulldog had shared with her doting owner ended abruptly beneath screeching tires three long years ago.  When our volunteer went to pick her up, her entire world for the past three years had been reduced to the bottom half of a 400P plastic crate set down in front of the television set.  Her owner had packed her around with pillows, she had her bones and her food and water in the crate with her.  She wore a diaper all day, which her owner changed as often as needed, trying to provide as comfortable a life as possible for his little dog.

It wasn't always like that.  Her owner tried to repair the damage caused by that dreadful accident.  A plate was put in her right rear leg, which took the brunt of the impact.  She was treated with acupuncture.  A set of wheels was purchased for her.  Her owner spent thousands of dollars trying to repair her.  In fact, her owner say that she is able to stand if she is positioned carefully over all four legs, but that's all.

Unfortunately, what her owner lacked was time, the time necessary to provide follow up to all that expensive veterinary care, to exercise those damaged limbs, to provide physical therapy to restore whatever could be restored of Nannette's former life.  So there she sat, year after year, while her precious window of recovery grew smaller and smaller.

We don't know yet if Nannette will make a full recovery, or even any recovery at all.  We do know that she and her wheels and her toys are soon going to be on their way to a very special foster home in North Carolina, to a volunteer who has long devoted herself to the hard luck cases that come creeping into rescue, hoping for another chance.  There's already a space set aside for her in front of the television set, where she can feel safe and watch her favorite soaps.  However, that space is also very near the back door, so that her foster mom can take her outside to relieve herself, rather than requiring her to use a diaper.  We already have reason to believe she's continent.  There is the whole wide world out there on the other side of that door, just waiting for Nannette.

We hope that you will consider contributing to the K-Fund so that we can continue to come forward to provide a better future for Nannette and other French Bulldogs like her, dogs that are seriously handicapped and have no hope pf any future at all without our help.  If you can help us get Nannette back on her feet again with a donation in any amount, (every dollar counts!), Nannette and the rest of the K-Kids would REALLY appreciate it!  Just click on the globe, and say it's for Nannette.  Thank you!
